I started reading Yoneda Kou’s Twittering Bird Never Flies Friday, and on the same day I read it twice. I could pin my gaze on this image for ever! This is the second Yoneda Kou reading, following どうしても触れたくない which I didn’t connect well, and it really made me breathless. From here, I can see me being a permanent fan of Yoneda Sama ^ ^
I didn’t understand Yoneda’s art style so well before Yakuza Yashiro’s story was unfolded to me. Yashiro is a beautiful creature with womanlike long legs, fair skin and silky hair, not to mention the bony hands and feet I most beobssesed. Having a reputation of ‘public toilet’ , he applies random lewdness to his daily business to rather intentionally shield himself from any heartfelt relationship with “human”. His only love to Kageyama is like the oasis where he can rest his sentiments and never “sell” them for sympathy.
Yashiro’s bodyguard and ‘invincible opponent’ being Doumeki Chikara is…an impotent and, his favorite “play” is not being nurse or police, but simply looking at his boss and touching his hair. He is clumsy and straight-faced, of zero talent working in gang or being a bodyguard, but he will do anything to stay by Yashiro’s side. Not good at words, his answer to the yearning “everything about him is beautiful to me.”
The setup is desperate enough to put the two in perfect discommunication. But the bound between them also grows so convincingly by… times of failed blow-job.(?!) or Doing Nothing together. (~~) I almost bite on my screen seeing Yashiro suddenly showed up in the izakaya in search of Doumeki and they end up going to the cinema where he rested his head on Doumeki’s shoulder. Yes, every time my heart just feel more when they, again and again, end up Doing Nothing! The increasing trust and the safety by Doumeki’s side leave no trace, but I can see it will finally blossom into something, such as…a good gaze at Yashiro’s sleeping face, or a good cry when they finally met each other .
While reading it, I keep thinking of a Chinese term “一受封疆”, the title of probably the most famous and annoying tambi web novel. I love Yashiro as a good uke because he is always able to tidy up his feelings and blend them into his unique charisma. (I found the prequel after reading the big one to complete Yashiro-Kageyama and Kageyama-Kuga stories in the past, but it didn’t disappoint me either) We don’t actually need more visualized background stories of his past but as a lover, to feel him or to touch him in silence makes just right amount of pain.
The story is still rolling. I can’t wait to see the next episode, but Yashiro’s wake-up word to Doumeki, a “Don’t cry. ” is just the perfect spot to feed and tease me at the same time.
